Seba's Fruit Bat

Seba's Fruit Bat (Carollia perspicillata)

Male and female Seba's short-tailed, leaf-nosed bats are very similar. Seba's fruit bats live in lowland forests of Central and South America. They roost in colonies of up to five hundred bats. They mainly roost in caves. Seba's bats feed mainly on fruit. They also eat nectar and insects. They use high pitch sound to help them catch insects in poor light. The female usually has one young after a pregnancy of four months. A female Seba's bat can have two babies a year. They can live for up to 7 years in the wild.
