Tejas, the male Asiatic Lion, was born to mum Asha and dad Asoka in August 2007. He was hand-reared by Chester Zoo’s carnivore team and went from strength to strength. He later moved to Besançon Zoo, France in January 2008.
A pair of threatened birds has brought development work at Chester Zoo to a halt. Rare and shy Kingfishers have made a home at Chester Zoo for their breeding season. However, the appearance of the birds has led to some development work on a new path at the 110-acre zoo being suspended until the birds' breeding season is over.
SHE was one of Chester Zoo’s miracles when she was born but little giraffe Margaret has proved to be just that for a second time. Margaret was not only the first female Rothschild Giraffe born at the zoo but also considered to be the smallest giraffe ever born.
Our Zulu dancers will be back this August to entertain visitors on the Ark Lawn!
