Other Invertebrates

Invertebrates are animals that do not have an internal skeleton or backbone. This is the most diverse group of animals on our planet; comprising of over 97% of the millions of all animal species known to science. Examples of invertebrates include protozoa, worms, insects, spiders, snails, crabs, and freshwater and marine invertebrates such as sponges, jellyfish and octopuses. Most invertebrates are relatively short-lived animals, whereas as other species, such as the Giant Clam, are believed to live for over 200 years.

We have numerous invertebrate species at Chester Zoo, including the mesmerising corals, shrimps, urchins and brittlestars in our Aquarium and the metallic, jewel-like, beetles and bird-eating spider in the Tropical Realm.
