Application Procedure

Each research project carried out with Chester Zoo requires a separate application to be submitted.

Please read the NEZS Research Policy carefully and then download the relevant application documents below to assist with your application. Please follow the instructions carefully and ensure that the forms are completed accurately as incomplete forms will not be processed.

Biological sample requests only
(e.g. faeces, urine, hair, blood)
What You Need: NEZS Research Policy and Appendix 1

Projects requiring other types of data
(e.g. behavioural data, questionnaires, film footage for research purposes)
What You Need: NEZS Research Policy, Appendix 2a and Appendix 2b 

Projects requiring biological samples AND other types of data 
What You Need: NEZS Research Policy, Appendix 1, Appendix 2a and Appendix 2b

Please note:

When sending the hardcopies of the Registration documents to the zoo, please ensure you affix the correct postage. As NEZS is a Registered Charity, we will not pay for any missing postage or additional charges so your item will not be delivered.

We aim to assess applications within four weeks of receipt; but please be aware that some projects may be reviewed quicker or slower than this, as the review process depends on factors such as the nature of the project and the number of projects under review at the time. We strongly recommend you apply well in advance.

As soon as the review process has been completed the researchers will be notified via email as to the outcome of their application.
