Field Conservation

Chester Zoo is a major supporter of conservation and research in the wild.
Conservation conducted in the natural habitat of a species is called in-situ conservation or conservation outreach. This is in contrast to the ex-situ conservation work conducted at Chester or at other zoos around the world.
Each year the Zoo is involved in many conservation projects working directly with threatened species in the wild. We participate in field conservation through Field Programmes, Field Projects, Studentships and Scholarships and Technical Support. Chester Zoo has strong partnerships with a large number of conservation professionals and organisations and works alongside partners such as Ecosystems-India, Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, and local Wildlife Trusts. We work with local communities to educate and protect about species and habitats.
The Zoo attracts 1.4 million visitors each year and depends on this income to directly support conservation activities. With your continued support Chester Zoo will strive to increase its conservation activities and battle to save our rapidly vanishing wildlife.
