Philippines Conservation Programme

philippinesSince 1994 Chester Zoo has been supporting projects in the Philippines, starting with the successful Philippine Spotted Deer Programme.

The Philippines are a recognised biodiversity hotspot. Working closely with local conservation organisations including Katala, Phillipines Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc (PBCFI), Cebu Biodiversity Conservation Foundation (CBCF) and Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation Inc (NFEFI), the Philippines Programme supports projects working with a huge range of threatened species and habitats.

These include sponsorship of wildlife wardens on the islands of Polillo and Cebu, support for rare species such as the Cebu Flowerpecker and Cinnamon Tree along with community-based conservation work.  Philippine Cockatoo and Philippine Hornbill field conservation projects are a focus of support as are breeding centres on Panay, Negros and Palawan,
