Realm of the Red Ape Conservation Programme

Realm of the red apeIn 2007, in conjunction with the opening of our new Realm of the Red Ape exhibit at Chester Zoo, several components of our orangutan outreach support were consolidated into a new Chester Zoo conservation programme.

The Realm of the Red Ape Programme focuses not only on the conservation of orangutans, but also their habitat and the other threatened species that are found in these important biodiversity rich areas.

The main focus of this programme is the floodplains of Kinabatangan in Sabah, Borneo, in partnership with the Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Programme (KOCP), and includes research, forest protection and community conservation.
