Partula Snail

Partula research

The International Partula Conservation Programme consists of a managed EEP breeding programme for 25 species of Partula snails.

As part of the programme, field research is going on in French Polynesia, where the Partula snails are found.  Of the 61 species of Partula found on the Society Islands, there are now only five species left, following the introduction of the predatory snail Euglandina rosea which extinguished the native species from their habitat.

These five remaining species are being protected and monitored on the islands and in the future, Partula species from the EEP breeding programme will be reintroduced to predator-proof reserves on the islands.
