Orangs use rope bridges

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Orang c Ajiran Hosman 2Chester Zoo has received fantastic news from our partners in Borneo working on the Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Project(KOCP).

This Bornean Orangutan in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary was seen using a rope bridge which was constructed in 2003.  These bridges aim to help reconnect orangutan populations who have been isolated from other populations due to habitat destruction. The bridges are used to cross obstacles such as rivers to get from one area of habitat to another.
