Learn more about our Safari Ranger workshops for Key Stage 2.

Act for Wildlife

The second biggest threat to animal survival after habitat loss is poaching. This may be for a horn with believed medicinal value, skin or fur meant to symbolise wealth and power, or a rare live animal seen as an attractive pet.

This workshop looks at the illegal wildlife trade of six iconic species, Chester Zoo’s global conservation efforts to prevent this, and what students can do to make a difference.

Talking Rubbish

Every year the UK produces 27 million tonnes of household rubbish. This workshop focuses on the effects this rubbish is having on our environment and endangered animals, and looks at what we can all do to reduce our impact on the planet.

We Need the Rainforest

(Borneo / Madagascar)

Rainforests are being destroyed at the rate of 11 football pitches per minute. In this workshop students will learn about the importance of the rainforests to us.

We will also discuss the layers of the rainforest and which animals we would expect to find there, illustrated with the use of a live rainforest invertebrate. Finally students will learn what they can do to protect this amazing habitat.

Tribal Communities and Conservation

(Kenya / South America)

This workshop gives students a chance to discover what it would be like to live in a tribal community, to learn about different cultures and ways of life. Students will also learn how Chester Zoo is working in partnership with these communities to protect their endangered animals.
