Want to work in a Zoo?
Chester Zoo employs over 200 permanent and 300 seasonal staff. There are many different careers available in zoos; this workshop looks at some different roles, what they involve and possible routes into work in the zoo and conservation sector.
Conservation Role of Zoos
Chester Zoo is a conservation charity with a mission to be a major force in conserving biodiversity worldwide. This workshop focuses on how we achieve this mission through our global conservation work, looking at a few flagship species, the problems they face and how these problems are tackled.
Students will have an opportunity to develop their own opinions about the roles of a modern zoo, and practise problem solving as they act at being conservationists.
We Need the Rainforest
(Borneo)
Rainforests are being destroyed at the rate of 11 football pitches per minute. In this workshop students will learn about the importance of the rainforests to us.
We will also discuss the layers of the rainforest and which animals we would expect to find there, illustrated with the use of a live rainforest invertebrate. Finally students will learn what they can do to protect this amazing habitat.
