Discovery Programmes for Psychology

For psychology students wishing to observe social and reproductive behaviour, communication and intelligence, Chester Zoo’s primates are ideal.
Many other species are models for different behaviours, our meerkats and their apparent altruism for example, and we offer the programmes below for psychology students to complement their own observations. [Beneath each topic, you will see a link which takes you to the lesson plan and some suggested activities. During sessions, links will be made to Chester Zoo’s extensive animal collection and conservation work at home and overseas. Selected enclosures, biofacts and live animals may be used to illustrate key points. We regret that we are unable to design and deliver tailor made sessions.
Animal Behaviour
Primate Behaviour
Primate Behaviour Out and About (autumn and spring terms only)
All our programmes make use of the Zoo’s unique resources, have strong links with the AS/A2 specifications, are appropriate to the age and ability of the group and are only available during term time. Each teaching session will last approximately 50 minutes. We take up to a maximum of 20 students in our classroom sessions and 15 students in our out and about sessions.
We are able to run 3 sessions simultaneously but advise early booking to secure the date and time you require. If you hope to come during the Summer Term, we suggest booking before Easter.
