Ashton Hayes - going carbon neutral!
Ashton Hayes in Cheshire is aiming to become England’s first Carbon Neutral village!
Between 2006 and 2012, Ashton Hayes managed to cut its carbon emissions by 20%.
This has mostly been achieved through behavioral change, along with an environmentally friendly sports pavilion and school which use solar power.
Students from the University of Chester have been helping out by carrying out door to door surveys to find out just how much energy is being saved in the village.
At the same time as saving the environment, the people of Ashton Hayes are also saving money - some villagers have managed to cut their energy costs by 50%!
