Rare bird success story for keepers

Pigeon gets the human touch

THIS tiny White-naped pheasant pigeon resembles more of a brillo pad than the striking bird it will eventually become.

The nine-day old chick is being hand-reared by keepers at Chester Zoo who have come up with a special diet to help the little one go from strength-to-strength.

The rearing of this rare bird marks a first for the zoo and it is receiving round-the-clock care in its precious early days.
