By June Freer (single name Bond)
I am now 87 years old, but lived at the Bears Paw, Chester (now no longer there). I belonged to a dance group rung by a lady called Mrs Duckworth, as far as I can remember, and was chosen to open the zoo round about 1935, I can't really remember how old I was, about 8 yrs. I was given a tortoise for a present. The group danced at the zoo more than once, and I think then there was a patch of grass, where we danced at the right hand side of the front door, your back being at the front door. This is a fond memory for me all those years ago.
