1930's

Shavington zoo

By Lynn Turner

The picture shows my mother about 1930 aged 6. Mum recalls that it was taken at Shavington Zoo (where some of the very first animals at Chester Zoo came from) by her older sister with a box Brownie camera. They had travelled by bus from nearby Crewe on their own and it was a big event. This is one of a few treasured pictures taken at Shavington Zoo on that day.
Despite now being almost 90 and suffering from memory difficulties mum still remembers this day!
