Holidays in Upton.

By Dorothy Steenken

In the war for our holidays we used to go to my Aunt Doris's in Upton near Chester. Lying in bed at night I used to hear the lions roar and the screech of the peacocks at the zoo. She lived in Alwyn Gardens so I was just able to go over the fence, across a field and up the lane a short way. The zoo was not very big at that time . I was 7 or 8 and used to go on my own there. Later when I was married and had children of my own I took them there and told them about my memories.
