Saturday morning pictures at the Odeon

By Marjorie Williams

My sister and I always attended the children's matinee at the Odeon cinema in Chester on a Saturday morning. Mr Mottershead sometimes brought animals along to show us children And he would explain all about them, where they came from, what they ate etc. I can see him now, standing on the stage with an animal or a bird, all the children, for once, quiet and attentive and enthralled.

My sister and I really enjoyed and appreciated his efforts to entertain and educate us. This was in the 1940's, not long after the war, there was not much available in the way of entertainment for children in those days so his visits were eagerly looked forward to.
