Once we arrived at the Zoo the first stop
was the Aviary. At 7yrs old I had never
seen such exotic birds. It took a lot of
persuation to prise me away.In those
days there was an Elephant giving rides..
Ithink it was an Indian elephant. It had a
red wooden howdah attached to it's back.
To get onto this contraption we had to climb up some steps onto a green platform and wriggle onto the seat.I remember the Mahout with a stick which had a hook on the end. Before we went home it was imperative to search the lawn in front of the house in case a Peacock had dropped a tail feather. If one was found it was the perfect end to the day at Chester Zoo.
