Meeting George Mottershead

By John Roberts

I've been watching the Our Zoo series with great interest - having been a visitor to the zoo since I was a small child in the early 50's - the polar bears were my favourites then!

I'm just writing to say that I met George Mottershead when he came to speak to Holywell Grammar School's Natural History Society round about 1960. There would only have been about 20 or so of us meeting after lessons in the Biology lab - I remember the occasion very well and George's great enthusiasm. There wouldn't have been a fee and it speaks volumes about the man that he would take the time to come over and address a small group of interested schoolchildren about the world he loved so much.
