Polar Bear Cub

By Mike Johnstone

Although a little uncertain of the exact year, this memory is firmly etched into my family's history & my early childhood.
We became regular visitors to the zoo, on settling on the Fylde coast in Lytham St.Annes. I recall being very excited by the arrival of a Polar Bear cub. Seeing the young cub playing in the enclosure with its parents is still a vivid picture in my memory.
Shortly after our visit, my mum & dad told me the sad news that the young cub had died.
Although very upset (I cried apparently), this event probably accounts for my love of Polar Bears to this day.
Mike Johnstone, aged 52 years young.
