Rose Gardens

By Sally Lloyd-Davies

Being about 7years old and visiting Chester Zoo was a regular treat. My father was a keen amateur gardener and an essential part of the trip was a review of the rose gardens. Even though for me this was the 'boring no animals' time I was always secretly impressed by the overwhelming blocks of colours and beautiful fragrance in the air. It was also the place that we had our regular pack lunch of cheese and pickle sandwiches! An ice cream later on was the special treat.
