Waterbus trips

By Peter Mustoe

My very first job in the school holidays was driving one of the small six seater boats on the canal system. I can remember meeting Mr Mottershead when I applied for the job. Sometimes I also got to drive one of the larger boats, one of which I remember had no reverse gear and it made stopping at the landing stages pretty tricky. We were also told to avoid going too near the island with the monkeys on, as they could jump onto the boats, causing some consternation amongst the passengers.
