I thought you may like to hear about our most memorable visit to Chester Zoo.On New Year’s Eve 1989 my husband and I decided to treat our three small sons to a visit to Chester Zoo. We wrapped up warm as it was a very cold day. On arrival I could see a lot of bustle behind the turnstiles and as we entered we were greeted as though celebrities. Unknown to us Phillip had become the 900,000th visitor. We were presented with lovely gifts and our photograph taken. For days afterwards friends presented me with newspaper cuttings of the event some of which I have attached. It was such a perfect day. Although cold the animals were very active and keepers were on hand to provide much information. My sons talk about their special day at the zoo with fond memories. As adults they still visit and admire the changes made over the years. In latter years my husband, a joiner, has been fortunate to have worked on the construction of the new rhinoceros enclosure and also that of the Komodo dragon.
