school visits

By janet leake

having grown up with chester zoo as an important part of my early life, i was delighted to be able to share it with my class of eight year olds when i worked as a teacher in shrewbury. they loved it! workshops led by enthusiaistic young staff were followed by an exploration of the site. the big animals were 'awesome' but much more interesting to the children were the sparrows and wild ducks that had flown into the bird enclosures... lots of discussion about natural habitats and the need to conserve endangered species. awesome indeed! and i only lost one child, found at last happily watching the elephants - obviously - see my earlier memory1
