Rare Hyacinth Macaw Chick

By Chester Zoo

A very special arrival came in July with Hyacinth Macaw Chick being hatched right here in a zoo incubator. The chick was so small at the time of birth it used a small Tupperware box as a crib. However, after expert care and hand rearing from our keepers the rare bird was soon on a growth spurt.

The Hyacinth Macaw didn't stay small for long and is in fact the largest parrot species in the world and can reach a height of up to 100cm tall!
