Asian Plains

Great Indian Rhino- scott - small -1

Chester Zoo's Asian Plains paddock is a mixed exhibit featuring the magnificent Greater One-horned Rhinoceros which lives alongside the Brow-antlered Deer and Black Buck.

A heated mud wallow and a large pool are two of the treats enjoyed by our Greater One-horned Rhinoceros who can frequently be seen bathing on his paddock. On one side of the paddock, a cut-out can be viewed, giving visitors an idea of the huge size our Rhinoceros will grow to.

Although off show to the visitors a number of features have also been incorporated into the design of the house, including a rubber floor and a heated pool.

Like many of the endangered animals at Chester Zoo the almost prehistoric looking Greater One-horned Rhinoceros is part of theĀ EEP programme and we hope to breed them in the near future.
