Baby Boo! Young rhino gets into the spirit of Halloween

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Inquisitive baby rhino Chanua has a first ever look at a pumpkin as the animals and keepers celebrate Halloween.

The one-month-old Eastern black rhino and her mum Ema Elsa were given the spooky veg, packed with other foodstuffs, as a way of enriching their feeding time.

Keepers say the arrival of Chanua, meaning ‘blossom’ in Swahili, is another step towards sustaining a black rhino population which, in the wild, has been ravaged by poachers.

Baby and mum are currently off-show to visitors but we’ll be sure to let you know on Facebook and Twitter the minute you’ll be able to come and see them.
