Coming out of their shell
Friday, August 03, 2012
Curator of Lower Vertebrates and Invertebrates Dr Gerardo Garcia is pictured with one of four Ploughshare tortoises, part of a shipment of 13 discovered in Hong Kong in 2009 and now home at Chester Zoo.
The Ploughshare tortoise is one of the most threatened species on the planet.
The tortoises will form part of a first European Breeding Programe, which is being run with Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Jersey, and Rotterdam Zoo.
