BBC’s Our Zoo has brought to life the trials and tribulations faced by our founder George Mottershead and his family as they set out on their adventure to open the zoo to the public.
With determination and a will to succeed, the drama has followed the family through the first difficult days, weeks and months as they battled to open our doors.
George’s pioneering ways didn’t just extend to having a zoo without bars but he also pioneered the first zoo animal adoption scheme in the world in a desperate bid to raise funds for us.
Some 83 years later, and now a registered charity, donations still help make a real difference to our conservation activities across the globe and also help with our work right here in the zoo. Oakfield has always been at the heart of the zoo, just as it is in the drama, and you can help play your part to help protect our heritage for future generations.
A £25 donation would allow us to maintain the upkeep of the zoo’s great buildings like Oakfield or could give a great boost to our conservation work.
