Frequently asked questions

Zoo Keeper for a Day

Here are some of the questions that we're asked most frequently. Although many of our animals appear friendly, they are wild animals and cannot be handled.

Q. Do I get to go in with the animals?
A.This depends on which section you choose to work in. It is possible that you may get to enter the enclosures with some of the less dangerous animals, but we cannot guarantee it.

Q. How old do I have to be?
A. You must be at least 18 years old and should be reasonably fit, as being a keeper is a physical job, if only for a day!

Q. How long will the day last?
A. You will spend an entire day working with the keepers, beginning at 8am and finishing at 5pm. Your day includes an hour off for a free lunch.

Q. Can I book for more than one person?
A. Yes, you can, but remember that each one will have to work in a different section as there is only one 'Keeper for the Day' per section.

Q. Can a family member or friend come along?
A. Only the person booked to be 'Keeper for the Day' is allowed access to the Zoo at 8.00am. For insurance reasons, any guest of the 'Keeper for the Day' will not be allowed access to any keeper areas at any time.

Q. Am I insured for the day?
A. Yes, you are fully insured for the duration of your stay.

Q. Do I receive mementos of my special day?
A. At the end of the day, you'll receive a signed certificate and a surprise gift! You are welcome, of course, to bring along a camera to capture those special moments.
