Apply to be a volunteer
We're delighted that you're thinking about volunteering with us. Please check our application process below carefully.
We cannot guarantee volunteer places for everyone who attends the open day and submits an application. We do try our best to connect personal interests to our organisational needs. Part of the process involves making sure that volunteering at Chester Zoo is right for you!
Step 1 - Am I eligible to volunteer at Chester Zoo?
All volunteers must fit these requirements to register for our Volunteer Programme:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be able to meet the minimum time commitment for the volunteer role
- Be able to present one piece of ID which displays your name, date of birth, signature and photo
- If you are from overseas you need to have the correct visa in order for you to volunteer
Step 2 - Check our available opportunities
You can look through the volunteer opportunities here to see if there is one that appeals to you and matches your availability.
If you're interested then please book onto an open day. There is a limited number of places available for the open days so sign up early!
Step 3 - Attend an open day
We're sorry but our Visitor Engagement open days were in December 2017 and are now closed. Keep your eyes peeled for more!
We ask you to attend an open day to meet some of the current volunteer team and take part in group activities which reflect the type of voluntary work you will be undertaking. This is a chance for us to get to know you and consider how you might fit into the volunteer team. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and decide if this is the opportunity for you!
Step 4 - Complete your full application
Step 5 - Phone call (just to say hello!)
Step 6 - Join a training session
Step 7 - Start making a difference!
Following your successful completion of core and position-specific training, you'll begin volunteering!
