Meet Our Team 17/11/2016
How long you have worked at the zoo: Nine years.
What species do you look after? I am a keeper on the rhino section and work with a wide variety of species but mostly work with the Eastern black rhino, greater one horned rhino, banteng, warthogs and brow antlered deer.
Why did you become a keeper? I have always had a keen interest in animals and knew it was the job I wanted to do after being a keeper for a day on the rhino section when I was just 15.
What’s your favourite animal and why? Greater one horned rhinos especially our adult male Beni.
What’s the best part of your job? Getting to work with the amazing animals on section every day! I also like the whole process of moving an animal, especially rhinos. Before moving a large mammal we need to crate train then which is a long process but it’s really rewarding. On some occasions I’ve also had the opportunity to go and settle them into their new homes too and not everyone can say they've driven down the motorway with a rhino in the back.
What’s the worst part of your job? Cleaning out the greater one horned rhino pool as usually one of them has kindly used it as their toilet the night before!
What’s so special about Chester Zoo? Chester is a lovely place to work and it’s somewhere I have always visited when growing up and it means a lot to now be part of the team and the great work they do.
