Elephant Calf Named Jamilah
Our newest elephant calf, born late into the night on Saturday 22nd January, will be called Jamilah - a name chosen by crime novelist Ruth Rendall. Long time support of Chester Zoo, Baroness Rendell, said "I am honoured and proud to be involved in the naming of the zoo's new baby elephant".
Jamilah, pronounced jah-mee-lah, is a word meaning beautiful. "You only have to take one look at her to see that the name fits perfectly," added Baroness Rendell, who has long supported the Chester Zoo and the conservation work we carry out locally and all around the world.
Jamilah is daughter to proud mother Thi and father Upali. She follows Nayan in becoming the second calf born at the zoo within the space of six months.
If you haven't visited the zoo to see Jamilah, now is the perfect opportunity. Book your tickets online now to get Fast Track admission and avoid the queues!
