A Philippine mouse deer – one of the smallest hoofed animals in the world – has arrived at Chester Zoo.
The new deer, which staff describe as being “not much bigger than a rabbit” is one of just 15 to be found in zoos across the whole of Europe.
We hope that the male deer – who can already be seen in its Islands in Danger exhibit - will eventually be joined by a female as part of our plans to join the endangered species breeding programme for the threatened animals.
