We’ve recruited 13 young people aged 18 to 25 to join the first UK zoo Youth Board to help shape their future direction and engage with teenagers and young adults.
From tattoo artists and engineers, to students studying animal-related degrees, the Youth Board is made up of diverse young professionals and students who all have one mission, to help prevent extinction.
They sit directly under the zoo’s board of trustees, and meet six times a year to challenge the zoo and have their own mentor from the zoo’s senior management team to develop their leadership skills.
They met for the first time on 7 March 2020 to discuss their vision, values and to decide on which areas of the organisation they will focus on first…
Our mission statement
“Preventing extinction by empowering future generations”
As Chester Zoo’s first Youth Board, our mission is to provide a voice for young people. We will ensure that Chester Zoo offers a universal experience, whether at the Zoo or in wider communities, that puts young people right at the heart of it. We will work to make sure the next generation are represented in conversation, are engaged with the work of Chester Zoo and are empowered to have an impact on the future of conservation, so that together we can all help to prevent extinction.
