We’re SO excited to welcome our first EVER Youth Board at Chester Zoo. This dynamic group of young people from a multitude of backgrounds, are on a mission to empower young people to take action for wildlife.

What’s your role on the Youth Board? What are you working on?

As a new member of the Youth Board I am enjoying discovering opportunities available and getting involved in projects. I have joined the social media sub-committee and I am looking forward to increasing engagement through different platforms as we move forward.

What does Chester Zoo mean to you?

Chester Zoo is a very happy place for me. Despite not being local, I have fond memories of exploring both the zoo itself and my interest in conservation at each visit. I am in awe of the work, research and development that occurs at Chester Zoo and all of this, supported by the dedication of the team, has sparked a real passion in me for supporting their work in any way I can. I will always regard Chester Zoo as the most remarkable place.

How have you supported the zoo, whether that is recently or over a longer period of time? (this can be anything – being part of our Youth Board is supporting us, as is visiting, supporting our campaigns, taking action for wildlife with us etc.)

Over the past few years, I have done what I can to support the zoo through donations, visits and social media awareness. During the pandemic, I encouraged others to buy vouchers for the zoo as a means of support whilst the zoo was closed and I continued to share the content created on social media pages to ensure others were aware of the incredible work that is constantly going on at the zoo. I enjoy speaking to others about research being carried out at the zoo and the ways in which Chester Zoo is working towards fighting extinction.

Why do you feel so connected and passionate about the zoo and its work?

I feel really passionately about the work the zoo is doing in conservation and preservation of the world that we live in. It’s amazing to see the impact that Chester Zoo has, not only here but across the globe, and I want to do all I can to support them in their conservation mission.

What do you hope to achieve in your role on the Chester Zoo Youth Board?

In my role on the Chester Zoo Youth Board, I hope to help support the zoo in its mission of conservation and help to promote the amazing work that it does, not only in our generation but across all generations. I hope to support in projects that help the zoo become more accessible to all and I look forward to seeing how our work encourages others to support the zoo as well.

What are you looking forwards to doing as part of the Youth Board?

I am really looking forward to promoting the incredible work that the zoo does and work alongside the other members of the board to increase engagement and excitement around the future of conservation. I think the Youth Board is a brilliant platform to help further educate people of all ages about the importance of the zoo and the many ways in which we can support it.

What have you gained from being part of the Youth Board so far?

Being part of the Youth Board has introduced me to many passionate and inspiring people who are making a huge impact. I am very excited to share their passion and work towards lots of exciting projects together. Their support is so encouraging and I know that they will help me so much with achieving our goals as a Youth Board!
