Exhibitions and Interpretation Design: How to engage audiences in the UK’s most visited zoo
Chester Zoo is the UK’s most visited zoo, with 25,000 animals in the collection and a record-breaking 2 million visitors in 2019. The Exhibitions and Interpretation Team work closely with the animal teams, architects and designers to develop interactive, engaging and thought provoking exhibits and interpretation. Chester Zoo is continually developing innovative, creative and immersive interpretation alongside amazing zoo design, with Islands opening in 2015, Madagascar and our lemur walkthrough in early 2019, the UK’s largest Asiatic Lion habitat in late 2019 and finally the brilliant reopening of Monsoon Forest in 2020.
This 2 day course will take you through how research informs our design, how we ensure our exhibits meet the needs of a range of demographics and the importance of a visitor journey around the spaces we create. The course will take you through key design stages using our Chester Zoo case studies and ensure you are able to then apply these concepts to your own projects or designs, or aid you in developing your career in the sector.
