Introduction to Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chains

Chester Zoo and EFECA have co-developed this one day introductory course to support organisations in navigating the complexity of palm oil supply chains. This course is specifically designed for commercial organisations involved in procurement of palm oil within their supply chains.

This event will be hosted by our Sustainable Palm Oil Community Partner The Deep, who are working to make Hull and East Yorkshire a Sustainable Palm Oil Region.

Over the course of the day, our Sustainable Palm Oil Specialists will take you through key topics related to:

• Responsible supply chains
• UK Due Diligence
• The link to carbon and climate change
• Legislation and paperwork
• Community engagement schemes in the UK
• Evidence and certification checks
• Field conservation and palm oil

There’ll be opportunities to discuss your current palm oil status, how to become RSPO certified and how to navigate the range of certification schemes you may encounter as a business. Experts will be on hand the whole day to network with, discuss your current challenges and offer some advice on next steps for your businesses.

We will also show you success stories from the field and how your work on Sustainable Palm Oil has real world impact on the communities, flora and fauna that we work in Malaysia.

EXTRA DAY: You’ll be invited to join us for a behind the scenes tour at The Deep Aquarium OR a visit to AAK’s International manufacturing site in Hull.

You’ll be contacted by our team once you’re booked onto the event to secure a place if you wish to partake in either activity.

AAK International specialises in the development, production and application of plant-based fats & oils for the food industry. You will visit the Customer Innovation Centre to understand the role sustainable plant-based fats & oils have in meeting key market trends such as health, vegan and cost reduction as well as taste food products made onsite using our multi-oil ingredients. A tour of the refinery and manufacturing facility will let you see up close how plant-based fats & oils are handled and processed as they make their journey from raw material to functional ingredients. The AAK team will be available throughout the visit to answer any questions you may have.

Location: The Deep Business Centre, Tower Street, Hull, HU1 4BG – the building adjacent to The Deep visitor attraction.

Travel: If you’re travelling by car, please use The Deep’s main visitor attraction car park. You do not need to pay for parking. If you are travelling by train, there is a station in central Hull, which is approximately a 15 minute walk away from The Deep.
