Join our Conservation Education and Engagement Team to learn about how we share science and conservation stories with our visitors.
From animal talks, zoo signage and TV & radio interviews to social media content, we’ll be sharing our tips and tricks to help you develop your skills. For those who feel ready, you’ll even have the opportunity to present one of our animal talks in the zoo in front of our visitors on your final week!
A typical skills course may look like this (please note topics, timings and locations may vary):
1:30pm – drop off at our learning space
1:45pm – introduction to topic
2:00pm – activity out in the zoo
2:30pm – talk on how to develop skills
2:45pm – out in the zoo practicing skills learnt
3:15pm – final questions and feedback
3:30pm – pick up
Who is it for? This skills course is for young people in secondary school years 7-9. Young people should be booked into the school year group they are currently in. The school year runs from 1 September – 31 August.
What is included? 3 x afternoon sessions at the zoo (1.30pm-3.30pm). Lunch is not included.
Our Junior Skills Courses do not include any hands-on contact with any of the animals in the zoo, or behind-the-scenes access to any keeper areas.
