WIN A ONCE IN A LIFETIME TRIP TO BORNEO

1.1 The ‘Expedition Borneo’ weekly prize draws are promoted by The North of England Zoological Society (‘Promoter’) and conducted for the benefit of The North of England Zoological Society under the name of Chester Zoo. Registered Charity Number 306077.

1.2 By entering the prize draws, entrants agree to be bound by these rules.

1.3 Your entry is via a donation to the North of England Zoological Society (the “Promoter”), solely in accordance with the terms under which the charity promotes it.

1.4 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

2.1 You represent and agree that;

a) You are at least 18 years of age, and a resident of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (with a valid UK passport) as on the 15 August 2022.

b) You will not buy entry on behalf of anybody else who does not qualify under section 2.1 (a); and

c) You will provide accurate entry information, including your name, personal address and email address and accept that it is your responsibility to keep us informed of any changes as soon as they arise.

2.2 You agree that you shall not be entitled to receive any prize if you are unable to substantiate to the Promoter your representations under paragraph 2.1 a), b) and c) above.

2.3 Entry is open to residents of mainland Great Britain and Northern Ireland only (this excludes Isle of Man and the Channel Islands). The North of England Zoological Society employees and those directly involved in the running of the Chester Zoo prize draws are excluded, as well as key contacts for suppliers to Chester Zoo (list of names is available on request).

2.4 You accept that the Promoter may be unable to provide refunds once you have donated as part of your entry(s).

2.5. Due to the age restrictions within Chester Zoo’s company policy on travel, we are unable to insure any persons over the age of 75 for international travel. If a winner is over this age at the point of travelling, they are still eligible to enter, but would need to arrange for their own specialist travel insurances, as well as be willing to undertake relevant heath assessments and vaccinations before travelling.

3.1. There will be one prize draw every week for 12 weeks during the period of 15^th August 2022 and 7^th November 2022. At the end of each weekly prize draw (midnight on Sunday) one winner will be drawn at random to win the weekly prize. Prizes will be published on the website.

3.2. The dates for the prize draws will be:

• Week 3: 29 August 00.01 – 5 Sept 00.00, draw to take place on 6 September 2022. Winner contacted on 7 September 2022.
• Week 4: 5 September 00.01 – 12 September 00.00, draw to take place on 13 September 2022. Winner contacted on 14 September 2022.
• Week 5: 12 September 00.01 – 19 September 00.00, draw to take place on 20 September 2022. Winner contacted on 21 September 2022.
• Week 6: 19 September 00.01 – 26 September 00.00, draw to take place on 27 September 2022. Winner contacted on 28 September 2022.
• Week 7: 26 September 00.01 – 3 October 00.00, draw to take place on 4 October 2022. Winner contacted on 5 October 2022.
• Week 8: 3 October 00.01 – 10 October 00.00, draw to take place on 11 October 2022. Winner contacted on 12 October 2022.
• Week 9: 10 October 00.01 – 17 October 00.00, draw to take place on 18 October 2022. Winner contacted on 19 October 2022.
• Week 10: 17 October 00.01 – 24 October 00.00, draw to take place on 25 October 2022. Winner contacted on 26 October 2022.
• Week 11: 24 October 00.01 – 31 October 00.00, draw to take place on 1 November 2022. Winner contacted on 2 November 2022.
• Week 12: 31 October 00.01 – 7 November 00.00, draw to take place on 8 November 2022. Winner contacted on 9 November 2022.

3.3. Each weekly prize draw will close for entries once it hits the maximum of £19,995 in donations or 6665 entries, or at the closing date/time – whichever comes first. The next weekly draw will open again on the above date and time for another chance to win.

3.4. The weekly winners will go into a ‘winners pool’ with the chance to win the grand prize of the expedition to Borneo. The winner of the grand prize (trip to Borneo for two people) will be selected from the 12 weekly winners. This selection will be based on a written/recorded submission and/or a meeting with our Chester Zoo field conservation team to determine suitability for the expedition and travel to Borneo – this will take place in November 2022. We will require the selected winner (and their guest) to undertake a health and risk assessment to ensure they can be covered by our insurances for this expedition. If an individual fails any of these assessments, at any point before the trip, they will no longer be eligible to receive the prize, and it will be offered to another winner from the weekly winners. No prize alternative will be provided at this stage.

3.5 Individuals (being an individual with the same name, postcode and email address) can enter each weekly prize draw multiple times and can enter all prize draws. The draws are independent from each other, and entries are not rolled over week to week.

3.6. The cost of each entry (chance) to the Competition is a £3 donation to the Promoter (North of England Zoological Society). All revenue gains from the competition, minus set up costs and prize fulfilment, will go directly to funding the NEZS Society conservation field projects both in the UK and globally.

3.7. Each individual entry (£3) has an equal chance of winning via a random number generated prize draw at the end of each weekly prize draw. The entry options are £3 (1 x chance), £15 (5 x chances) £30 (10 x chances) or an unrestricted donation amount via our prize draw landing page. The maximum number of entries per person per prize draw is unrestricted, and the number of chances allocated per individual (being an individual with the same name, postcode and email address) will be calculated as a divisional of 3. Example: £300 donation by one individual in one weekly prize draw equals 100 entries (chances) to win.

3.8. Weekly prize winners will only be entered into the ‘winners pool’ once. Winning multiple weekly prizes will not increase the chances of winning the grand prize of the expedition to Borneo. If an individual wins multiple weekly prizes, the number of individuals in the ‘winners pool’ will decrease (Example: if an individual wins the weekly prize twice, the total number of individuals in the ‘winners pool’ will decrease from 12 to 11).

3.8. All donations via this competition will be eligible for Gift Aid. Adding Gift Aid will not form part of your entry donation and will not result in additional entries. It will make no difference to your entry or chance of winning.

4.1 Upon entry, the Promoter will allocate all individual entrants a unique ID code and allocate their number of chances upon the closure of the prize draw. This data will then be provided to an independent Random Number Generator (RNG) that has been tested and approved by an independent third-party test house.

4.2 1 x randomly selected unique ID number will be provided to the Promoter as a weekly winner. We will then notify the winning individual via email within 2 days of the competition draw. If the winner fails to accept the prize (by return email or phone) within 14 days, then we reserve the right to offer the prize to another entrant.

4.4 The Promoter may (without giving any reason or notice at its absolute discretion) decline to accept an entry or terminate or suspend the Competition.

4.5 You will be required to provide information relating to the purchase of your entry/s, such as name, email address, address and postcode, with will be collected for future contact via the Promoter, upon the entrant ‘opting in’ to this communication. All payment data for donations will be facilitated by Stripe, with no financial data being held with the Promoter or the RNG.

4.6 There is the option of a free postal entry. You will need to write to us at Chester Zoo (Borneo Prize Draw), Upton-By-Chester, Chester CH2 1LH and provide accurate entry information – including your name, personal address and email address and accept that it is your responsibility to keep us informed of any changes in your personal details as soon as they arise. Each postal entry will be eligible for one entry (chance) into the prize draw (worth £3) in the week we receive it. We will only accept one postal entry per person (being an individual with the same name, postcode and email address).

5.1 The total prizes for the Chester Zoo prize draw competition will be outlined on the Chester Zoo website and on the marketing and promotional materials provided. There are no alternatives to any prize, and prizes may change subject to availability.

5.2 Entrants will be notified as to any change in the prize structure via the Chester Zoo website chesterzoo.org/expeditionborneo

5.3 The prizes for the competition are as follows:

Week 9: Tropical Adventure for two
Week 10: zoo admission for 4 adults
Week 11: sun bear adoption
Week 12: zoo admission for 4 adults

5.4 The grand prize of the expedition to Borneo will be a 6-night trip. 1 night in accommodation in Sandukan and 5 nights in lodge accommodation near the HUTAN project in Borneo. Including expenses, travel, economy flights, lodge accommodation for two adults (over 18 and under 70 years). The trip will include a boat cruise, plus a series of activities that will be devised by our partners HUTAN, including a presentation from the conservation team and a field station visit. The winners will also be given the opportunity to choose from an Orangutan study site visit, wildlife tracking, an elephant search and a night activity. The trip will take place 2 – 8 March 2023. The 2 x participants for the Borneo expedition will both need a valid UK passport that has at least 6 months remaining as of 1^st July 2023 and be willing to undertake any relevant travel vaccinations or health checks before travelling.

5.5 The Promoter reserves the right to amend the prizes at any time. Any such changes will be published on the Chester Zoo website.

6.1 The Promoter’s liability to you shall be limited to the amount of any prize which has become due to you. v

6.2 The Promoter is not liable to you for:

• Any lost, stolen, delayed, incomplete or illegible entries, or entries that reach us after the closing date, or for any delay in bank payments. Proof of posting is not proof of delivery.
• Loss or damage, including the right to receive a prize, suffered by you if you have not complied with these rules, any relevant participation instructions, or the rules and regulations of the Gambling Commission under legislation laid down in the Gambling Act 2005
• The Promoter’s failure or inability to contact you and/or award any prize due to any errors or inaccuracies in the contact details you have provided or your failure to update these if they change
• Loss or damage incurred by you in connection with or arising from the participation in the Competition
• Any delays or failures in the Chester Zoo website or any software, hardware or any other systems used by the Promoter for the administration of the Competition
• Any failure or delay beyond the Promoter’s reasonable control.

6.3 The Promoter is not liable to you in contract (including but not limited to negligence) or otherwise in connection with the Competition for loss profits, savings or loss of data, any special or indirect or consequential losses or any loss of goodwill or reputation.

6.4 The Promoter is not responsible for any delay or cancellation to the trip to Borneo due to conditions out of our control. In the case the trip does not happen in March 2023, we will endeavour to find a suitable alternative date or alternative project and location.

6.5 Nothing in these terms and conditions shall limit the Promoter’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, fraud or for any other matter for which liability may not be limited by law.

7.1 Upon entry to the competition, you are signing up to be contacted by Chester Zoo in relation to the prize draws. Data will be held in accordance to GDPR laws. Chester Zoo will keep your data secure. We never sell your personal data and will not share it with other companies. We may use your information to contact you in the future about activities, including fundraising. If you would prefer not to receive communications from us, please let us know by contacting Chester Zoo or opting out of this at any time by unsubscribing.

7.2 The independent RNG will not receive any personal data. All payment data is held by Stripe in accordance to their own data protection policy, and is not accessible to the Promoter. Privacy Policy (stripe.com)

7.3 If you are the winner of the expedition, you may be asked for a quote and photograph for marketing purposes and will be filmed/ photographed on the expedition trip. This content may be used for further marketing for competitions in the future and is covered for usage rights by Chester Zoo in perpetuity.

7.4 The Promoter reserves the right to use winner’s names for promotional purposes. These will only be used in summary e.g. Mr W from Woking.
