When will the zoo reopen?

The government has now announced that the zoo will not be able to open any earlier than 12 April. We are hopeful that we’ll be able to reopen the outdoor areas of the zoo on or around this date and we will keep adding updates as we have them.

Whilst we had hoped we would be able to reopen earlier it’s great that we can now plan to get the zoo back open and welcome you back when it’s safe to do so.

We really do appreciate all of the good wishes we’ve received during the time we’ve been closed and if you would like to find ways to support us right now then you can find all of the information here

I’m a member, what will happen to my membership while you are closed?

We’re determined to bring you online events and updates while we’re closed, but understand that the latest announcement that we can’t reopen before 12 April is hugely disappointing.

We hope that you will be able to carry on with your membership as normal as a way of supporting us whilst we are closed but understand that this isn’t possible for everyone.

We’ll be in touch in March to offer another month extension to your membership to compensate for being closed for a little longer than we had hoped.

Please be patient whilst our team make the arrangements. If you haven’t heard from us by the end of March but want to extend your membership then please contact the membership team.

I have a booking for the zoo during the time that you are closed. What can I do?

If you have made a booking for the zoo for a date before 12 April then please email guest.services@chesterzoo.org

Please be patient while our team work through all of the emails. Thanks.

Can I still book tickets for the zoo?

We don’t have any tickets for sale at the moment, whilst we make our plans for reopening.  Please sign up for our emails to be the first to know when tickets go back on sale.

For now we ask our members to be patient and we will be in touch with you as soon as we are able to confirm our plans and release booking slots.

We are hoping to keep the need for member bookings to an absolute minimum, whilst ensuring that we adhere to the safety guidance, which is likely to be in place until at least mid-June. Thank you for your ongoing support

Will school visits be allowed?

In line with government guidelines the zoo will be closed until 12 April at the very earliest. .

If you have any queries or would like to book a visit at a later date please get in touch with our bookings team who will be more than happy to help learning@chesterzoo.org.

Even though a visit to the zoo isn’t possible right now, there is still lots of ways that we can support learning at home or in the classroom. You can book one of our virtual sessions and we have LOADS of free resources to support your learners at school or at home

Will the nature reserve be open?

Yes, our nature reserve will be open, but we must insist that those visiting are mindful of others in this space, and to observe social distancing and safety measures when visiting. Please follow national guidelines relating to essential travel away from home.

Can I book an event?
We were really delighted to hear that special events may now be possible over the summer.
If you have an enquiry about a private or corporate event at the zoo then please contact events@chesterzoo.org and we’ll be really happy to help you plan your very special day.

We have a question and can’t get through to anyone on the phone.

To ensure the safety of our staff we currently have a smaller team working at the zoo. This means that it’s taking us a little longer than usual to answer enquiries. You can find lots of information on our website.

For anything else, please email guest.services@chesterzoo.org and our team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for bearing with us at this time.

I’m a member. Do I need to book?

We are doing our best to keep member booking to a minimum but when we reopen it is likely that you may need to book to visit during very busy times.

The earliest we are able to reopen is 12 April but this won’t be confirmed for a little while yet.  Our team are planning for reopening and as soon as we’re confident about our reopening date and the booking arrangements that we need to have in place we’ll release any member booking slots. .

We will email all of our members with an update and will provide details about whether you need to book, as soon as we can.

Thank you for bearing with us during this uncertain time. We can’t wait to welcome you back.
