The conservatory was located next to Oakfield House – which you can see in the background – and is where Albert Mottershead grew most of his flowers and plants. It was also home to a few reptiles before the reptile house was built. The conservatory was badly damaged by shrapnel during the Second World War and had to be demolished. To the right of the image you can see the early bird aviary which visitors could walk through.
