Robert Russell loved spending time with his family at Chester Zoo. Robert_‹_s family kindly shared their memories of their time together.”We always loved to visit Chester Zoo together with our dad. As children we spent so much time at the zoo that our dad would say our feet knew the paths by heart.” “Dad had cared deeply about wildlife from a very young age. When he was just six years old, his mum found him taking care of the wild birds near his home. He was also a keen gardener. He continued to care for his garden and his birds throughout his life.””When our dad sadly passed away, we came together to make a donation to Chester Zoo in his memory, as it was his favourite charity and place to be. We arranged for his ashes to be scattered in the zoo_‹_s beautiful gardens and engraved a leaf in his memory on the Giving Tree.” “Over the years we have seen the zoo develop as our family has grown. Dad loved to bring his grandchildren to Chester Zoo. Whilst he never had the chance to visit the zoo with his great grandchildren, they will follow in his footsteps. They will grow up with visits to Chester Zoo, just like we did. They will see his name on the Giving Tree and hear about the impact of his lifelong love of wildlife. He would be proud to know that wildlife is being protected in his name.”
