I was so familiar with the zoo when I was approached by Peter Bloomfield (the assistant curator of birds at the time) to join the bird keepers, it seemed like a natural progression to work there.
Within the first year of me starting I hand reared the first Andean condor, which was a first for the zoo. I remember preparing the food in my mum's kitchen –semi digested Rat entrails! My mum had already grown used to this, as my dad was constantly bringing home exotic animals (as you can see in the photo).
