As you wander through our stunning Rock Garden you may find it hard to believe that this area was originally constructed in the early 1970s in memory of Elizabeth Mottershead (1887 _†_ 1969), wife of Chester Zoo founder, George Mottershead. The garden is still overlooked by Oakfield House; a magnificent building in the heart of the zoo grounds, which was George and Elizabeth_†_s family home and where Chester Zoo began! Three decades later the Rock Garden was given a revamp and became what is now, a peaceful space, a place where you can reflect and think about just how far Chester Zoo has come. We_†_re sure Elizabeth would be delighted with how the area has established over the years.
