The new underwater viewing zone was one of the only places in Europe where people could see the otters diving for food through large underwater viewing windows. The new exhibit, opened by the Lord Mayor, was cutting-edge in terms of design for both animal welfare and opportunities for the public to view these fascinating animals. The exhibit allows our visitors to watch these exquisite animals in their own element and become mesmerised by their graceful antics. The breeding facilities behind the pool were carefully designed to provide the otters with the seclusion and security these animals need to successfully rear their young. We were rewarded by them rearing their two pups at the first attempt and watching them teach their youngsters to swim provided a fabulous insight into their lives.
