Ian Puleston-Davies (who plays Owen Armstrong) was on hand as the street was invaded by one of Chester Zoo’s ‘big bugs’ ahead of its world-first exhibition this summer.

A giant bumblebee – one of 13 robotic giants winging their way to the zoo – flew onto the street as part of a whistlestop tour of the UK.

Mr Puleston-Davies, a member of the zoo, said: “Coronation Street has attracted all sorts of creepy-crawlies over the years but a giant bee outside of the Rovers is a first even for us.”

The five foot long bee will be joined at the zoo by creatures including a dragonfly, ladybird and a giant show-stopping 30 foot wide tarantula.

The huge creations were custom built for the zoo by a top animation studio in the USA and it will be the first time they will have ever been seen together, anywhere in the world, when BUGS! opens on July 13. The event will run until November 3.
