Introduction
Professor Reid will be introduced by Tiago Pinto-Pereira, the WAZA Decade ‘Biodiversity is us’ Project Manager. Tiago is a masters-trained sustainable development specialist with a particular focus on conservation issues and the interaction between nature and human activities. He joined the WAZA Executive Office in 2013 to create and implement ‘WAZA Decade’, the first global outreach project of WAZA.
Wonderful Life! – celebrating biodiversity through personal reflections – Gordon McGregor Reid
A light-hearted tour around some of the most diverse and interesting species I’ve had the privilege of studying and conserving during my long career in universities, natural history museums and zoos, including Chester Zoo.
Gordon held the position of Director General of Chester Zoo till 2010 and is a past President of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Linnean Society of London. He is now a Visiting Professor in the Veterinary School of the University of Liverpool and acts as a Trustee for the Species Survival Commission of IUCN. The author of more than 250 papers and books, he recently edited our Chester Zoo publication History of Zoos and Aquariums: From Royal Gifts to Biodiversity Conservation.
Vote of Thanks
The programme will be rounded off by a vote of thanks given by Dr Mark Pilgrim, the Director General of Chester Zoo. Mark was appointed to this role 2010 and is only the fourth Director General in its 84-year history.
