While you’re reading this, we will lose the equivalent of 25 football pitches of rainforest to unsustainable palm oil plantations. Every tree that falls results in the destruction of precious biodiversity that supports wildlife ranging from tiny frogs to our own relative, the orangutan.

It’s up to all of us to do what we can if we are to ensure this precious resource is preserved.
Race for the Rainforest | Chester ZooTake part in a BIG challenge that will make a HUGE difference for wildlife…

When: March 2021

Where: Kinabalu National Park, Borneo

Who: Cheshire business leaders and friends of the zoo, including CEO Dr Mark Pilgrim and Trustee Sandra Donnelly. We are also very grateful to our amazing corporate sponsors who are contributing towards our fundraising target of £50,000

What: An epic run through the jungle of Borneo to raise money for Chester Zoo’ reforestation work. Participants can choose to run 9km, 30km, 50km, 100km or 100miles, and each one of them is helping us prevent extinction in the rainforests of Borneo.

Why: see below!

HOW WILL TAKING PART IN THIS CHALLENGE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

We know from our experts in the field that reforestation is vital to regenerating the land that has been ravaged by unsustainable palm oil production, so we aim to raise funds to support our reforestation work in Borneo. Our activities range from tree-planting and wildlife monitoring and research , to managing forest fires, and each facet of our work contribute to a healthy, thriving rainforest habitat where wildlife can flourish.

By taking part in Race for the Rainforest and raising funds for Chester Zoo, not only are you encouraging the reinvigoration of the precious biodiversity that would otherwise be lost, you are supporting local communities and protecting our planet.

TAKE PART IN THE CHALLENGE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Join us for the adventure of a lifetime and take part in the Borneo Ultra in Kinabalu National Park in March 2021. We are recruiting business leaders from Cheshire and the North West to join together and take on this colossal challenge as a team to fundraise and to raise awareness of the need for solutions to deforestation, including reforestation and sustainable palm oil.

We’re asking competitors to fundraise a minimum of £2,500 each which will go towards our overall target of £50,000. Your fundraising will help us work towards our goal of protecting the Bornean rainforest where wildlife can thrive. (Please note that the details may change nearer the time depending on the situation on the ground.)

Anything raised over our initial target of £50,000 will enable us to carry out vital educational work here in the UK and in Borneo which raises awareness about the importance of reforestation along with supporting our reforestation work.

Forest habitats are being lost, animals are losing their homes and carbon is being released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming.

We’re working with partners all over the world to promote sustainable palm oil production but we can ALL do something to make a difference.
